At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

In the early hours of Monday 6 May, the Duchess of Sussex gave birth to a baby boy, with Prince Harry by her side.

A statement was released on the royal couple’s official Instagram account, revealing that the baby was born before 6am and weighs 7lbs. 3oz.

The first pictures of the couple with their newborn were revealed on Wednesday. The newborn was seen swaddled in a white blanket wearing a white hat.

The couple later announced on Instagram that they had named their son Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor.

Royal historian says we will find out where Meghan gave birth –eventually

We might know the baby's name and what he wore on his very first photo call (a shawl and cashmere hat by G H Hurt & Son), but we don't know where Meghan gave birth.

The photo call took place in Windsor, leading many to believe that Meghan had a home birth at Frogmore House, where the couple moved to last month. But rumours circulated that the Duchess had actually been taken to The Portland Hospital in London to deliver the baby before being driven back home to Windsor.

Buckingham Palace has kept mum on all of this thus far. However, according to royal historian and biographer Hugo Vickers, we will eventually find out where the birth took place.

"By law we will be told where the child was born," he told The Independent. As for when? Watch this space.

Thomas Markle's ex-wife warns Meghan against breaking estrangement as she accuses him of abusive behaviour in damning new interview

Meghan's relationship with her father is notoriously troubled. He did not attend her wedding to Prince Harry due to illness and many royal experts suspect he will never meet Archie.

Now, Thomas Markle's ex-wife, Roslyn, has spoken to the Daily Mirror about their relationship and urged Meghan to keep him out of her life.

"Repeatedly he has shown to Meghan he cannot be trusted," she told the publication.

"She must know that now. I speak not out of bitterness, my life moved on many years ago, but out of concern. Archie deserves to be brought up in a happy home, not in this vengeful situation that has been created.

“Tom was an awful father. What makes him think he’d be a great grandfather to Archie?”

Model's tweet goes viral after she calls royal baby's name 'basic' on ITV News

Official viewing figures show more people tuned in for first glimpse of Archie than Prince Louis

Free to air satellite TV provider Freesat has analysed viewing figures from the royal baby's first-ever media appearance on Wednesday and found that Sky News saw a 24 per cent increase in viewers compared to the previous week as a result.

Meanwhile, BBC News, who also covered the photo call, saw a 26 per cent increase in viewers.

The figures are significantly higher than those surrounding coverage of Prince Louis' birth in April 2018, suggesting the British public was far more interested in Archie than Louis.

Alistair Thom, Managing Director for Freesat commented:“As with the royal weddings, news channels are recording significant spikes across the country, with viewers surfing footage to see if they can catch the first glimpse of the latest royal addition."

Archie already 100-1 to be prime minister of the UK, according to bookies

He might be only five days old, but it seems that the British public is already hedging bets on Archie Harrison's future.

Coral Bookmakers has revealed that the odds for the Duke and Duchess of Sussex's newborn to become prime minister are already at 100-1. Meanwhile, the same odds stand for Archie to win an Oscar.

The bookmakers also say the baby has a 200-1 chance of playing football for England, according to bets placed on his future.

“We see plenty of weird and wonderful bets placed all the time and a new royal baby is another great opportunity for punters to get their bets on what the future might hold," said Coral’s Harry Aitkenhead.

“The shortest odds of any of the specials is for the little royal to have a UK number one single, which is just 6-1 with the potential for a charity collaboration maybe down the line,” Aitkenhead added.
