In the early hours of Monday 6 May, the Duchess of Sussex gave birth to a baby boy, with Prince Harry by her side.

A statement was released on the royal couple’s official Instagram account, revealing that the baby was born before 6am and weighs 7lbs. 3oz.

The first pictures of the couple with their newborn were revealed on Wednesday. The newborn was seen swaddled in a white blanket wearing a white hat.

The couple later announced on Instagram that they had named their son Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor.

When Baby Sussex is born, Prince Harry and Meghan won't have full legal custody of their child.

This is due to a law enacted more than three centuries ago, called "The Grand Opinion for the Prerogative Concerning the Royal Family".

This law dictates that the Queen will have full legal custody of any future children of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex.

“I would doubt that the Queen would interfere. [It’s] more of a formality,” royal expert Marlene Koenig told The Independent.

“I think the Queen has let her children raise their kids.”

In November, the Duchess of Cambridge expressed her excitement over the upcoming arrival of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex's baby.

"It's such a special time to have little kiddies," she told royal fans in Leicester.

"And a cousin for George and Charlotte, as well, and Louis - it will be really special."

Baby Sussex may become the first royal to own more passports than either of its parents.

The royal baby will be able to obtain two passports, as he or she will have a claim for dual nationality.

Meanwhile, Prince Harry does not qualify for American citizenship, and Meghan will need to have lived in the UK for five years before applying to become British, despite being married into the royal family.

Prince Harry and Meghan are reportedly looking to purchase a family home in California following the birth of the royal baby.

According to The Sun, the duchess wants to have a home in Los Angeles because, as a native Californian, she "loves the city, the lifestyle and climate".

While it's probably unlikely that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex would ever move abroad permanently, the idea of having a holiday home in the Golden State sounds pretty ideal.

A white board put up on the London Underground has poked fun at the arrival of Baby Sussex in a very mischievous way.

"The nation is so excited about the new arrival coming soon for one of the world's most favourite couples," the white board reads.

"She is so beautiful, with a smile that could light up any room and we know she is so happy with her red headed, cheeky Prince Charming.

"It won't be long now Stacey Solomon and Joe Swash. We are also excited about Meghan and Harry's baby announcement coming very soon."

TV personality Solomon, who's expecting her first child with TV presenter Swash, tweeted that the message was the "sweetest".

Solomon has two elder children, aged 11 and seven.
