In the early hours of Monday 6 May, the Duchess of Sussex gave birth to a baby boy, with Prince Harry by her side.

A statement was released on the royal couple’s official Instagram account, revealing that the baby was born before 6am and weighs 7lbs. 3oz.

The first pictures of the couple with their newborn were revealed on Wednesday. The newborn was seen swaddled in a white blanket wearing a white hat.

The couple later announced on Instagram that they had named their son Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor.

American news anchor Gayle King has revealed she's flying to the UK to report on the royal baby.

"Flying to the UK to shoot stuff for prime time royal special," King wrote on Instagram.

King was one of the few guests who attended the Duchess of Sussex's baby shower in New York earlier this year.

A London-based doula has revealed what it was like being mistaken for the Duchess of Sussex's doula in the lead up to the royal baby's arrival.

In February, Lauren Mishcon's name made headlines worldwide when it was widely reported she would be working as Meghan's birth coach during the royal's pregnancy.

“My own mother rang me on the Sunday night to say that she had worked out that the holiday I was taking in April was obviously a cover story for the fact I was supporting Meghan. That’s when I thought ‘this is madness’,“ Ms Mishcon said during an interview on ITV's Harry & Meghan: A Royal Baby.

With the Duchess of Sussex currently in the final stage of her pregnancy, there is obviously no chance of the royal attending this year's Met Gala on 6 May.

However, there is a possibility that Meghan may be inclined to attend the fashionable event at some point in future, especially considering what Anna Wintour had to say about the topic.

During an interview with the Today show, the Vogue editor-in-chief said that the Duchess of Sussex and the Duchess of Cambridge would be her "dream couple" at the Met Gala.

“I would love to have the Duchess of Sussex and the Duchess of Cambridge together," Wintour said.

“They could leave their husbands at home. It’s the two of them I want.”

While Twitter is currently ablaze with rumours regarding when the Duchess of Sussex is due to give birth, the royal recently revealed that she avoids the social media platform, so that she doesn't get "muddled" in the "noise".

The duchess was speaking during a panel discussion led by the Queen's Commonwealth Trust in celebration of International Women's Day.

Meghan explained that when it comes to social media, "positive or negative, it can all sort of just feel like noise, to a certain extent these days".

Nonetheless, that didn't stop the Duke and Duchess of Sussex from launching their own official Instagram account under a month later.

For all those wondering why the royal baby hasn't been born yet, it may be because it's a firstborn.

According to a study conducted by computer scientist Allen Downey, a firstborn baby is likely to be born later than other babies.

However, this difference is reportedly minimal, with firstborn babies born an average of two days later than other babies.

Downey assessed data from the National Survey of Family Growth, analysing more than 30,000 pregnancies.

It was recently reported that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex are not going to be releasing any official royal baby merchandise following the birth of their first child.

"We have no new ranges to announce," a spokesperson for the Royal Collection Trust told The Independent.

Nonetheless, with excitement building over the upcoming birth, those wishing to celebrate Baby Sussex can do so by buying an unofficial royal baby-inspired babygrow, on display here in a shop window in Windsor.

Longtime royal fan John Loughery has prepared for the prospect of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex having a baby boy or a baby girl.

Loughery has created posters celebrating either outcome, stereotypically colouring the baby boy poster blue and the baby girl poster pink.

Both posters feature two pictures of the royal couple, one of which was taken on the day of their wedding in May last year and the second on Commonwealth Day in March.

If the royal baby is born today, then it will share its birthday with a very special day in the Star Wars fandom.

Every year, fans of the globally renowned franchise celebrate Star Wars Day on 4 May, using the phrase: "May the Fourth be with you", in reference to the famous catchphrase: "May the Force be with you".

As such, several Star Wars fans believe the Baby Sussex should take its name after another treasured royal: Princess Leia.

"Only one possible name for the #RoyalBaby if it's born today," one person tweeted, alongside a picture of Carrie Fisher as Princess Leia. "Happy Star Wars Day everyone."

Baby Sussex could have playdates with some very famous friends when it grows up.

As well as the Duchess of Sussex, actors Blake Lively and Keira Knightley both recently revealed that they're also pregnant.

Lively is expecting her third child with her husband, actor Ryan Reynolds, while Knightley is expecting her second with her husband, musician James Righton.

There's a possibility that Baby Sussex may share its birthday with two other royals, if he or she is born today.

Pauline Ducruet, daughter of Princess Stéphanie of Monaco, celebrates her 25th birthday today.

Meanwhile, Prince Henrik of Denmark, son of Prince Joachim of Denmark, turns 10 today.
