Wines of the week: Three special occasion whites
Three classy and satisfying white wines for special occasions this summer, but don’t be tempted to over chill in warm weather….

From Spain….
Pazo da Bruxas Albarino 2015
Deceptively light in colour and texture, this wine from the wet and green Rias Baixas in north-western Spain is nevertheless brimming with zesty, tangy, refreshing flavours of lemons and green apples. It demands to be drunk with oysters and other shellfish starters.

From Italy….
Ancilla Lugana Ella 2015
A rarity: the Turbiana grape - once considered a variant of the more common Trebbiano - is grown only in the Lugana area around the southern part of Lake Garda in northern Italy. Lovely lemon and grapefruit flavors with a some underlying savoury notes on the palate, a long finish. Try with baked sea bream on a bed of fennel and olives.

From France….
Domaine de la Soufrandiere, Pouilly-Vinzelles, 2013
White Burgundy from a village neighbouring the more famous Pouilly-Fuisse in the Maconnais area. Hand-picked, ancient Chardonnay vines and limited, biodynamic production: precise minerality, complex citrus and stone fruit flavours lingering on the palate, this is serious quality all round. Perfect with roast chicken or prime white fish.
