Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Trapiche Estacion Malbec 2011
The first of three enticing South American wines is a benchmark Malbec from Mendoza in Argentina. A lovely freshness surrounds the smooth, intense flavours of vanilla, blueberries, sweet cherries and a hint of chocolate. Matches a rare steak, but also all roasted red meats. £10.50, winedirect.co.uk; £11.18, thedrinkshop.com

Casa Silva Viognier Reserva 2013
A really pure expression of Viognier from Chile's Colchagua Valley displays vibrant flavours of apricots, peaches and the characteristic underpinning of spice and honey. Fabulous with linguine and shellfish or scallops with black pudding. £9.89, sandhamswine.co.uk; £9.95, stainton-wines.co.uk

Pisano Cisplatino Tannat 2014
Full marks to M&S for unearthing this brilliant gem from Uruguay, one of the less well-known wine-producing countries. The Tannat grape here creates lighter and more elegant wines than in its main home in South-west France, delivering gorgeously juicy red fruits and a real depth of flavour. £7 (until 8 June; normally £9), Marks & Spencer
