Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

Sunday lunch

Gulfi Cerasuolo di Vittoria DOCG 2013

From a new online concern offering mixed cases of lesser-known Italian wines, this is a sumptuous bottle from Sicily. An organic blend of Frappato and Nero d'Avola, it has aromatic, vibrant and intense dark fruits, with lovely clean acidity. Goes with lighter meats such as veal or chicken, or even a fish stew. £21.50 (when bought as part of six mixed bottles), libiamo.it

Midweek meal

Rui Madeira Beyra Mencia 2012

Usually known in Portugal as Jaén, the Mencia grape creates highly appealing wines that combine freshness on the palate with moreish, juicy, dark-fruit flavours. Organic and unoaked, this is a wonderful match for pasta, paella or vegetable dishes. £9.50, thewinesociety.com

Bargain basement

Bertrand's southern French varietal wines represent both authenticity and excellent value for money. Dry, aromatic, with tropical and dried fruits, nuts, honey and spice, all combining wonderfully here. £7.49 (each for two bottles as part of a purchase of six mixed bottles, until 27 April; normally £9.99), Majestic
