If you are planning to order your festive wines for delivery, last-order dates are approaching…
For beef or goose…
Felino Malbec Vina Cobos 2012
A perfect Argentinian for beef, and its underlying vibrancy can cut through the fatty richness of goose. Big but smoothly elegant, with black fruit, some spice and cedar. £9.99, ampsfinewines. co.uk (last orders: 10am, 22 December); £13.99, henningswine.co.uk (10am, 19 December)
For turkey or game…
Mas Champart Saint Chinian Côte D’Arbo 2011
Succulent and juicy, this southern French blend of Syrah, Grenache, Carignan and Mourvèdre is far better value than most of the big names, finely balanced between acidity and richness, and underpinned with herbal touches. Good for hard and blue cheeses as well. £12.50, Wine Society (midnight, 17 December); £12.45, bbr.com (noon, 18 December)
For fish….
Willunga 100 McLaren Vale Viognier 2012
Enough body to match most white fish and seafood, while also being perfectly good with white meats. Wonderfully aromatic, crisply refreshing, typical honey and dried-apricot flavours, with a long finish. £9.99 aitkenwines.com (minimum order six bottles; midnight, 16 December); £10.95, etonvintners.com (20 December)
