From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. Kermit the Frog has denied the rumours he is dating a pig named Denise - and has asked for his personal life to be kept private following a very public break-up with his partner of forty years, Miss Piggy.

Reports suggested that Kermit had moved on with Denise, an ABC marketing executive, during filming of The Muppets' new show, which is set to air on ABC later this month.

He had tweeted that he was 'seeing someone' who worked at the broadcaster, and many were quick to note the similarities between his new girlfriend and his former partner.

But Kermit has taken to Twitter to issue a statement, saying “Sheesh. I can’t believe I already have to do this again. Here is the official statement on my relationship status:”

In his statement, he admits he is “dating again” following the split but he is simply “good friends” with Denise. “No woman — pig or otherwise — is my official ‘new girlfriend’,” he says.

The initial statement about the break-up between Kermit and Miss Piggy was reportedly due to in-fighting.

The two said they decided to terminate their relationship "after careful thought, thoughtful consideration and considerable squabbling."

The New York Daily News reports that the new show will focus on Miss Piggy as she becomes the host of her own talk show. Although the drama off camera sounds far more interesting.
