F1 Dutch Grand Prix LIVE: Race result as Lando Norris wins ahead of Max Verstappen
Follow live coverage of all the action at Zandvoort as F1 returns following the summer break
Lando Norris reminded Max Verstappen of his F1 world championship credentials by taking a brilliant pole position for the Dutch Grand Prix.
The British driver, who trails Verstappen by 78 points in the standings with 10 rounds still to play, saw off his rival by 0.356 seconds to silence the 100,000 spectators hoping to see the Dutchman start the Zandvoort race from the front.
Verstappen, without a win from his last four appearances, will start alongside Norris on the front row. Oscar Piastri took third, half a second down on McLaren team-mate Norris.
Mercedes’ George Russell finished fourth as Lewis Hamilton endured an afternoon to forget after he failed to make it out of Q2. He will line up from 12th for Sunday’s 72-lap race.

Not a perfect stop for McLaren - 3.1 seconds - but it’s fine. Norris comes out in fourth but just under five seconds ahead of Verstappen!

Lewis Hamilton, who was on softs, pits and switches to hard tyres - and drops to 16th. Will that be enough to go until the end of the race?
F1 Dutch Grand Prix: Lando Norris stretches his advantage (Lap 22/72)
Norris gets beyond the one-second margin so Verstappen does not have DRS in second - and goes seven-tenths quicker on that last lap as the lead increases to 1.9 seconds.
A lot of discussion over team radio about strategy - plan A seems to be the call for McLaren, which is presumably a one-stop.

His McLaren had much more pace and cruised past Max Verstappen down the inside on the start-finish straight with DRS!
Verstappen tried to fight it around turn 1 but to no avail - Norris has the lead!

The Mercedes driver cruises down the inside of Haas’ Nico Hulkenberg to get on the edge of the points.
He’s not happy, though. “I’m too slow on the straights,” he says on team radio.
