Brazilian Grand Prix LIVE: F1 race result and reaction as Lewis Hamilton beats Max Verstappen

Lewis Hamilton has won the Brazilian Grand Prix, climbing from 10th place to overtake Max Verstappen and narrow the gap to his Formula 1 title rival to 14 points.
Hamilton was excluded from qualifying in Sao Paulo and demoted to the back of Saturday’s sprint race after his Mercedes fell foul of the technical regulations and his pole lap at Interlagos was chalked off. The Briton performed impressively to finish fifth in the sprint, but he also served a five-place grid penalty for using his fifth power unit of the season – when only three are permitted.
But the defending champion surged from 10th on the grid up to second at the Brazilian GP on Sunday, before engaging in a thrilling battle with championship leader Verstappen. Hamilton’s first attempt to overtake the Red Bull driver saw the Dutchman force the seven-time title-winner off the track, but Hamilton got past Verstappen on Lap 59 of 71. Hamilton then retained the lead to win in Sao Paulo, narrowing the gap to Verstappen with three races left this year. Verstappen finished second, while Hamilton’s Mercedes teammate Valtteri Bottas – who had started on pole – rounded out the podium.

Hamilton is about a second-and-a-half behind Verstappen now, with Bottas five seconds behind his Mercedes teammate, and Perez in fourth.
Ferrari teammates Leclerc and Sainz are back in fifth and sixth, as they were early on.

Russell overtakes Stroll, whose car is pretty badly damaged, to go into 14th.

Neat move from Gasly to overtake Norris and go 10th – into the points places!

Verstappen and Hamilton have both pitted, and so Bottas and Perez occupy first and second place.
Perez then pits, however, and so Verstappen and Hamilton are up into second and third...
Brazilian GP – Lap 25
Hamilton is three seconds behind leader Verstappen, and seven points ahead of third-placed Perez.
Brazilian GP – Lap 20
Hamilton goes one way, then the other, and he gets past Perez!
But the Mexican immediately regains second place, using DRS to overtake the Briton!
The back-and-forth continues, though, with Hamilton getting round Perez on the outside!

Tsunoda receives a 10-second penalty for causing a collision with Stroll. Both drivers are still in the race, however.

Another safety car spell here, as marshals clear debris from Mick Schumacher’s car.
“The rear wing is under the car,” the German is told via his team radio.
And... we’re back under way!

Verstappen remains out in front as the safety car departs the track. The championship leader is 1.3 seconds ahead of teammate Perez.
Hamilton is slowly gaining on Perez, meanwhile...
