From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. While many of us are still finishing up our last-minute Christmas shopping, the Boxing Day and early January sales are looming.

The shopping event can be the best time of year to bag a bargain, and is often synonymous with queues forming outside high-street shops from the early hours. But this year is set to look a little different.

As many more people will choose to shop from the comforts of their own homes, it’s likely that the online sales are set to be bigger than ever. As such, we’ve drawn up our predictions on the deals you can expect from the likes of Amazon, John Lewis & Partners and Currys PC World, as well the discounts we forecast across fashion and beauty and tech

With the big shopping event looming, the money saving expert Martin Lewis has announced his predictions, something he also did for Black Friday. Using his annual forecasting tool, which compares prices from the past decade, he has provided an insight into the best savings you can expect.

Speaking on ITV's The Martin Lewis Money Show, he said that many of the January sales have in fact kicked off early, including Kurt Gieger and H&M, which are both offering up to 50 per cent off.

The money saving expert thinks John Lewis & Partners will start its sale on Christmas Eve. While it doesn’t bill its clearance as “up to 50 per cent off”, it matches its competitors’ discounts. Last year Lewis spotted prices being considerably slashed.

M&S and Next are similarly set to offer up to 50 per cent off, starting from Christmas Eve. But it’s worth noting that last year Lewis saw the M&S sale boosting its discounts to up to 60 per cent off on 3 January, before a further increase a couple of weeks later.

Argos is expected to kick off its sale on Christmas Day, with reductions of up 50 per cent off across beauty, tech and more.

And as for Amazon, it’s forecasted that its sale will begin on Boxing Day, with prices also being slashed by up to 50 per cent, with deals on big-name brands such as Philips, Fitbit and Bosch. To stay well in the know, we’d suggest bookmarking our guide, which we’ll be updating with the latest offers from the retailer as they come.

If you’re in the market for a designer handbag, the forecaster predicts that the Mulberry sale will start on Boxing Day, with up to 50 per cent off. We’d suggest keeping an eye on our guide to the best Boxing Day fashion deals, so you don’t miss a thing.

If it’s make-up and skincare you’re after, you’ll be interested in Money Saving Expert’s predictions for Boots and The Body Shop, which expects that both will kick off their sales by offering up to 50 per cent off from 24 December. He notes that Boots is likely to boost its discounts in-store during January and February, but you can keep up to date with the very latest in our beauty deals guide, which will be updated with the latest as it comes.

When it comes to travel, the forecaster has predicted that easyJet will offer up to 20 per cent off flights from Monday 21 December, while Ryanair is expected to launch its sale on Monday 30 December, with 500,000 seats going for as little as £9.99. The travel operator similarly slashed its prices during Black Friday and Cyber Monday, so it’s certainly one to keep an eye on.

If it’s European travel you’re planning, it’s expected that you’ll be able to bag a return trip to Paris, Lille, Calais or Brussels from London St Pancras for as low as £58 from Tuesday 7 January.

It’s forecasted that from Monday 21 December we’ll likely see more of the big sales starting, and some existing sales being boosted to offer larger discounts, with prices slashed by up to 70 per cent. But according to Money Saving Expert, in previous years there have been boosts of up to 90 per cent off!

With such low prices and high discounts expected, we’d recommend bookmarking our guide to the best Boxing Day deals to make sure you don’t miss out on a thing.
