Awards season is officially back, with the 78th Golden Globe Awards kicking things off on Sunday night.

With safety precautions over Covid-19 still in full force, the ceremony and red carpet looked very different this year as the majority of nominees attended from the comfort of their own homes. But, while normal proceedings were off the cards, the stars’ beauty looks remained fierce and fun.

Among a sea of dewy skin and pared-back fluttery lashes, there was one actor that really stole the show with a bold neon pink eyeshadow that even Lady Whistledown would approve of.

You guessed it, Nicola Coughlan, otherwise known as Penelope Featherington from Bridgerton, lived up to her extravagant on-screen guise with a make-up look that dominated the Golden Globes.

For the ceremony, the star contrasted her buttercup yellow ballgown by Molly Goddard – crafted from layers of ruched tulle – with a bold pink ombré eyeshadow that gave her ensemble a contemporary touch.

Coughlan’s make-up artist, Neil Young, posted a photo of the star on Instagram, sharing how he created the look by expertly blending Kryolan’s neon pink aqua colour with Mac’s neon pink pigment. The bold hue was tempered with glowing skin, clear glossy lips and neon green hair grips to match the actor’s eyes.

With spring and the cessation of lockdown on the horizon, Coughlan’s show-stopping look is great inspiration for make-up upgrades. If you want to give it a go yourself, we’ve rounded up our pick of the best bright eyeshadow palettes that you can shop right now. Happy blending.

NikkieTutorials x Beauty Bay pressed pigment eyeshadow palette: £25, Beautybay.com

(Beauty Bay)

This 20-shade eyeshadow palette is a collaboration between Dutch make-up artist and beauty YouTuber Nikkie de Jager, better known as NikkieTutorials, and online beauty retailer, Beauty Bay.

It offers a mix of matte and pressed glitter formulas in an unusual array of colours, ranging from a hot orange and periwinkle blue to a duo-chrome silver and a deep mulberry shade. In our review of the palette, our tester said that each pan is “impressively large given how many there are” and highlighted its reasonable price.

“When considering the palette’s innovative packaging, unusual yet surprisingly versatile colour story, the huge pan sizes and blendable, long-wearing formulas (aside from a few of the shimmers), we’d say this palette is a total dream for colour lovers, especially at this price,” they said.

“We can’t think of another palette that offers this many high-quality, generously sized shades at just £25, making it a competitive addition to the make-up market.”
