If there’s one thing that’s got us through lockdown, it’s TikTok. Having spent most of our time on the sofa scrolling through the never-ending stream of funny videos, beauty tutorials and comedic relief, it’s a welcome bit of escapism.

It’s also home to a huge make-up community, where users share their favourite products, affordable dupes, dramatic transformations and more. When a product goes viral on the app, you can guarantee it will sell out and earn cult status in the beauty sphere.

The most recent product to prove popular is the KVD Beauty good apple skin-perfecting foundation balm, with the hashtag #kvdgoodapple racking up more than 13.8 million views.

It’s a full-coverage foundation available in 40 shades, described by the brand as having “a lightweight, long-wear formula and a fresh matte finish, in fully recyclable packaging.”

It’s also one of the first launches as part of KVD Beauty’s re-brand, since parting ways with founder, Kat Von D.

The foundation is seeing rave reviews on TikTok as users are rating its smooth texture that’s so full coverage, some have described it as like wearing a mask.

There’s countless videos of it on the app with users demonstrating it concealing every imperfection and blemish, from spots to dark circles.

Costing £29, it’s hardly cheap and has a long list of claims. A balmy texture is less common in the make-up sphere too, as brands tend to favour liquid and powder formulations.

In a bid to see if it’s as good as TikTok says it is, we put it to the test, rating it on texture, blendability, coverage, staying power and packaging.

Verdict: KVD good apple skin-perfecting foundation balm

Having shunned full coverage foundation in the past year due to their heavy texture and changing trends which see glowy, dewier complexions becoming popular, this balm is a refreshing, innovative way to dip your toes back into matte textures.

It’s great to see that there’s still room for new full coverage foundations on the market, and from the views on TikTok, the demand is obviously there.

It’s also nice to see a viral product that doesn’t disappoint. Just ensure your skin is adequately moisturised before application and don’t be too heavy-handed in your application when using a brush to avoid using more product than necessary.
