From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference. This year’s series of The X Factor has been somewhat controversial for a number of reasons. First off, the competition was labeled a ‘fix’ for allowing already signed artists compete.
Fans then began boycotting the show due to ‘rapper’ Honey G making it to the live shows, something no-one seemingly wanted. Following the live shows beginning, the group Brooks Way were kicked out due to allegations against one of the members.
Viewers have once again been left disgruntled at the show after Dermot O’Leary revealed rules for voting have changed.
Beforehand, those wishing to vote for their favourite act had to wait until all the contestants had performed that evening: viewers can now cast their vote at any time in the live show.
Many have scorned the ITV show for the change, calling it a popularity contest rather than ‘talent’ show. “The fact they open the voting before the acts have even sung just shows this sh*t show is not a signing competition,” wrote one person on Twitter.
Earlier this year, The X Factor registered a ratings catastrophe after viewing figures hit a 10-year low. These changes are likely an attempt to get people back watching: whether it will work out remains to be seen.
The X Factor results show takes place at 8pm.
