The latest episode of the Marvel Disney Plus show, titled “Breaking the Fourth Wall”, revealed the biggest clue yet regarding the origins of the sitcom world that we’ve been led to believe was created by Scarlet Witch (Elizabeth Olsen).
A revelation towards the end of the episode has suggested that there was in fact another perpetrator behind the reality-altering field known as the “Hex”.
*Spoilers follow – you have been warned*
It turns out that Scarlet Witch might have been a pawn the entire time. In the closing moments of the seventh outing, it’s revealed that her cheerful neighbour Agnes (Kathryn Hahn) is an ancient sorceress called Agatha Harkness.
Viewers are now convinced that Marvel comics villain Mephisto is on the cusp of arriving – he has been teased ever since the show’s first episode thanks to a reference to the comic book storyline “House of M”, in which he features.

This comics storyline sees Scarlet Witch alter the fabric of reality after suffering a mental breakdown due to losing the children she has with Vision. The children, who were conceived using magic, are taken from Wanda by Mephisto; it turns out their souls were fragments of his.
Wanda then has her memory wiped so she has no idea she even had children – that is until years later, when she finds out and goes on a rampage, creating her own world in order to bring them back.

But, viewers believe Mephisto made a small appearance in WandaVision’s seventh episode – but have conflicting views on how this played out.
Possibility one:
Two different theories posit that Mephisto appeared in the scene that sees Wanda realise her children, whom Agatha was babysitting, are missing. Looking around, she spots an insect crawling down a curtain.
Viewers have been quick to point something alarming about Mephisto’s debut in the comics: the extra-dimensional demon first appeared as a fly.

Others are tearing this theory apart, though, pointing out that the insect featured in the scene is actually not a fly, but a cicada.
Still, the MCU has changed small details in the past and clearly don’t want to make its forthcoming surprise too obvious.
Possibility two:
The other idea is that Mephisto is actually the caged rabbit featured in this scene – and that this is the postman often seen walking around Westview. Crucially, the postman wears a cap that has a rabbit symbol on it, and he can also be seen following Wanda and Agatha after the latter steers Wanda away from Monica Rambeau (Teyonah Parris).
At this stage, anything is possible.
Possibility three:
Others are convinced Mephisto’s appearance was teased in the scene that sees Wanda searching for her twins in Agatha’s creepy basement.
Look closely and you’ll see a devil symbol that has a close likeness to the Marvel villain on a column as Wanda walks around.
WandaVision continues Fridays on Disney Plus.
