Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

If your heart is grieving after The Great British Bake Off's grand final on the BBC; dry those tears, it's not quite over yet.

Though Candice Brown was crowned the winner of the last series ever to be aired on the channel, it's not the last time we'll ever see Mary Berry, Paul Hollywood, Mel, and Sue all together on screen.

The Great British Bake Off is set to return for two Christmas specials on the BBC, announced earlier this year; with BBC director of content Charlotte Moore saying of the plans, "Mary, Paul, Mel and Sue are the perfect recipe for the festive season."

A fact many fans likely forgot in the furore surrounding the show's controversial move to Channel 4, alongside the departure of Mary, Mel, and Sue from the show; though the BBC's official Bake Off Twitter account was quick to remind and reassure audiences.

"Deck the tent with bakes of holly! Paul, Mary, Mel, and Sue will return to BBC One for two special new episodes of GBBO this Christmas," the post writes; it'll be interesting to see whether these specials will make any nod to the show's departure from the BBC, or any of the controversy surrounding it.

If the BBC are looking for other ideas on how to continue the show, perhaps it could take inspiration from its fans, who have been demanding the channel commissions a spin-off centered on Val's adventures in Cyprus' Ayia Napa.
