From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

Candice Brown may be the winner of The Great British Bake Off, but who was the winner of our hearts?

A pretty strong candidate for the honorary title seems to be Val Stones, especially when we discovered what she's been up to since getting booted off the show on Pastry Week.

The final ended with a pre-credit reel which showed life outside of the tent for each of the contestants; Candice and Jane Beedle have been planning a road trip together, while Selasi Gbormittah is heading off to ride his motorbike around Europe.

However, fans got particularly excited upon hearing that Val was planning a "baker's holiday to Ayia Napa"; as in, the same Ayia Napa in Cyprus that's developed into something of a party central over the years with 12 clubs, 80 bars, and plenty of wipe-clean furniture.

Where exactly baking fits into that scene is a secret only Val is privy to, but fans are pretty desperate to find out; with many demanding Val gets her own spin-off show about her Ayia Napa adventures.
