From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Strictly Come Dancing viewers have chosen their four finalists following a nail-biting semi-final.

Saturday (12 December) night’s show saw the remaining contestants perform two dances for the first time, leading to a wide range of scores on the leaderboard.

EastEnders actor Maisie Smith topped the week with 59 out of a possible 60 marks, scoring a perfect 30 for her Street/Commercial routine. Social media star HRVY also received 30 points for his Charleston.

At the bottom of the leaderboard was Good Morning Britain’s Ranvir Singh and Giovanni Pernice, who went head to head with Made in Chelsea’s Jamie Laing and Karen Hauer in the dance-off.

However, despite Laing ranking above Singh on the leaderboard, the Waltz she chose to perform again in the dance-off scored higher than the reality star’s Salsa.

As a result, viewers were shocked to see Craig Revel Horwood and head judge Shirley Ballas vote to save Laing, in particular as it was his fourth time in the bottom two and only Singh’s first.

Laing will now compete in next Saturday’s (19 December) grand finale against Smith, HRVY and comedian Bill Bailey. It will be the first time the couples perform three dances, with one being the Showdance.

Strictly Come Dancing returns on Saturday 19 December at 6pm on BBC One.
