From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Love Island contestant Sherif Lanre has spoken out after being suddenly thrown off the ITV2 reality show.

The popular contestant, 20, was ejected from the villa under mysterious circumstances after breaking a rule. It remains unknown what he did to constitute the decision.

Sherif wrote on his Instagram story: “Thank you to everyone including my friends and family for the support I’ve come back to.

“I appreciate you all and hope I provided some good, positive moments during my time on Love Island and for anyone wondering, I’m all good.”

In the wake of the news, Sherif released a statement alongside producers of the show.

It said: “In a case of poor judgement, I broke the villa rules and as a result agreed with the producers that it was best for me to leave the villa. I regret that I didn’t conduct myself in the right way and, as a 20 year old guy, it’s something I know I will take on board and learn from.

“I really enjoyed my time in the villa and look forward to catching up with everyone on the outside.”

Sherif entered the villa ten days ago in the first episode of the fifth series. At the time of his departure from the show, he was coupled up with Anna Vakili.
