Love Island 2019: Tom and Arabella leave the villa in double dumping

Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Love Island returned on Thursday night for an explosive, angst-filled (and slightly longer than usual) episode that culminated in a double dumping.

Tom and Arabella were sent packing – a result both of the public's votes and their fellow islanders' decisions (but more on that later).

Aside from the dumping, much of the episode was dedicated to Tom and Maura's feud, which has now been resolved by way of Tom's departure.

It's over for Tom and Arabella

This is the major takeaway from tonight: not one, but two islanders have left the show. The public's votes were used to determine which couples would be spared during the dumping, until four pairs remained.

Of the remaining couples (Arabella and Danny; Amy and Curtis; Maura and Tom; and Anna and Jordan), the islanders were asked to pick who they wanted to send home. The safe female islanders (Molly-Mae, Lucie and Amber) decided to end Tom's tenure in the villa, while their male counterparts (Anton, Tommy and Michael) decided it was time for Arabella to leave.

Arabella was sad to leave without Danny, with whom she was coupled up. This also means Danny is now single (due to Anton, Tommy and Michael's decision, so we'll see how that plays out). Maura is newly single too, but given that she had spent most of the episode arguing with her partner Tom, she was most likely ready to move on regardless.

He said, she said

This brings us to the other hot topic from tonight's episode: Maura was left furious at some comments Tom allegedly made about her. She heard from Jordan that he had called her over-the-top, attention-seeking, and cringey. Tom's defence appeared to be that he initially thought those things but had looked past them and now had a different perspective.

After much back and forth, Tom and Maura never really worked things out, and Tom was sent packing.

Are Tommy and Molly-Mae the new Curtis and Amy?

Molly-Mae and Tommy were sent on a horseback-riding date and had a lovely time. Molly-Mae couldn't stop laughing at Tommy's goofy attempt to get onto his horse. Tommy, meanwhile, couldn't get over how wonderful Molly-Mae looked on her horse. Long story short: these two appear closer than ever, and could soon compete with Curtis and Amy for the title of most solid couple in the villa.

What will become of Amber and Michael?

Seemingly out of nowhere, Amber and Michael started arguing with each other. It was unclear who had said what, or done what, but some tense words were exchanged. Should we expect more tension between Amber and Michael in the future? Only time will tell.

Arabella and Danny are chatting on the beanbags.

Now Michael wants to chat with Amber. So many chats!

James Crump27 June 2019 21:06

Michael tells Amber there is no problem. It seems as though they're definitely a problem. Michael wants to talk more but Amber's walking away.

It's time for the islanders to go to bed.

It's a new day in the villa!

Some are working out, some are chatting. Lucie and Maura are discussing the Tom situation.

Call me demanding, but I don't find "He said, she said" storylines all that interesting.

James Crump27 June 2019 21:17

Maura has an inkling that she hasn't found out the whole truth yet about what Tom allegedly said about her.

James Crump27 June 2019 21:17

Meanwhile, Amber is still unhappy with Michael. He's trying to make up with her, unsuccessfully so far.

James Crump27 June 2019 21:17

Amber and Michael have sort of made up.
