Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

This is shaping up to be the most dramatic week of Love Island yet.

Tonight saw showdowns, scheming and, yes, a shock dumping – all the hallmarks of a terrific episode of reality television.

Below are the four biggest talking points from the latest edition of the ITV2 show.

Loose lips sink ships – and romantic getaways

The episode picked up where last night’s left off – with Maura reeling over Tom’s remarks about her with the boys ahead of their trip to the hideaway. Specifically, the Irish contestant – someone who hasn’t held back when it comes to discussing her sex life – heard him wonder whether or not she was “all mouth”. Romantic. Maura’s reaction didn’t disappoint: backed up by the girls, she told him where to go and, quite frankly, it was a joy to watch Tom squirm as he tried to get back into her good books. Obviously, he succeeded; Maura doesn’t want to get thrown off the show just yet, does she?

Lucie lives to fight another day

Fair play to Lucie. She’s still in the show despite her “boyfriend” Joe getting dumped from the villa last week. While she still looks like she’s been crying an awful lot ever since, tonight she’s given a reason to smile when Anton picked her in the surprise recoupling. Whether it’s because he’s interested in pursuing things with her or if he just wants her to realise her dream of meeting the ideal “surfer guy” remains to be seen.

Are this couple the official underdogs?

There weren’t many surprises in tonight’s recoupling, which peaked when Danny made his choice between Yewande and Arabella (more on that below). But one sweet moment came when Jordan announced he was choosing to couple up with Anna, a contestant whose future on the show seemed uncertain following the removal of Sherif a few weeks back. Jordan’s speech, while a bit overly-sentimental, was enough to win over the smiles of all the other islanders and it’s no stretch to assume those grins were etched onto the face of viewers also. Could these be in the running for victory? Watch this space.

Danny makes his decision

For those who had no interest in whether Danny sent Yewande or Arabella home, this must have been a tedious episode. Everyone else, though, was on tenterhooks as Danny made what he had earlier deemed “the hardest decision of [his] life.” He’s clearly led a sheltered existence. Sadly, it was Yewande’s time to go home. Ahead of her departure, Danny approached her to apologise for the way he handled their situation over the past few days. Yewande responded with one hell of a mic drop? “Enjoy your time in the villa, what goes around comes around and have a nice life.”

Catch up with all the action from tonight’s episode as it unfolded below.

Love Island airs at 9pm on ITV2

Curtis: "Blame it all on the lads" – will Maura buy it?

Jacob Stolworthy24 June 2019 21:04

The answer to that is a resounding "no"

Jacob Stolworthy24 June 2019 21:05

It's actually pretty cathartic watching a slimy dude get his comeuppance on ITV2 – and the guys seems to agree. They're laughing in his face. This is entertaining.

Jacob Stolworthy24 June 2019 21:06

Anton swinging in here, hoping to smooth the cracks with Maura.

Jacob Stolworthy24 June 2019 21:07

"It's interesting to see if she's all mouth" is not a question, Tom.

Jacob Stolworthy24 June 2019 21:08

Amber, everyone! Speaking more sense than anyone.

Jacob Stolworthy24 June 2019 21:09

Wooooooooah boys, Maura getting angry with your offensive comment isn't a double standard.

Jacob Stolworthy24 June 2019 21:11

Michael clocking on to the fact that Maura is stood right outside the room listening to them bitching about her and trying to alert the others is lowkey the greatest moment of this series yet.

Jacob Stolworthy24 June 2019 21:12

"Tom, just go" – everyone in the villa + everyone watching this show.

Jacob Stolworthy24 June 2019 21:13

Nothing like a haunting cover of "Don't Speak" to capture the mood in the villa right now.
