From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.Another night, another couple leaves Love Island.
Last night's episode (Saturday 15 July) saw Charlie and Ellie evicted from the villa, Ellie leaving with a boyfriend worth £399,950,000 more than the reality TV show’s £50K prize money.
The result was, of course, obvious from the start, the ITV2 producers playing their hand early by actually giving the most boring couple in the villa some screen (have we actually ever seen Charlie speak before tonight, other than to tell Jack how much he's worth?).
But, hold onto your sangrias, because that’s not all. Another couple – either Wes and Megan or Sam and "loyal Georgia" – were faced with the threat of going home. Only this time, the other contestants had to pick which couple they thought could really go the distance (gasp!).
The islanders picked Wes and Megan as the couple they thought were most likely to last. But there was a twist on a twist as Georgia and Sam were told they could stay in the villa... if they split up with one another. And split up they did! Turns out Georgia isn't so loyal after all - at least not when there's £50,000 at stake. She warmed quickly to Paul, despite not knowing what his former job (a carpenter) entailed. She thought it meant he fitted carpets for a living. Seriously.
And, to top everything off, another (yes, another) four Islanders turned up. I can barely remember this lots’ names, let alone four new ones. Please, ITV, introduce name tags. (Although, I don’t know where they would pin them, because no-one’s ever wearing clothes.) We have another Josh (Josh #2) and another Laura (Laura #2) plus Paul and... another girl.
As always, The Independent blogged along with all the action. Catch up with everything that happened below

Love Island continues weekdays and Sundays at 9pm on ITV2
I am enjoying the fact that Paul has seen straight through Georgia and her 'loyalty'. So far he seems like a potential goodun. Maybe even too good for this place.
So the islanders are speculating about how today's dates went. All we know so far is that Georgia learned what a carpenter is.
Singer-songwriter Tom Grennan, who just scored a No.5 album with his debut Lighting Matches (nice one Tom), is not a fan of Georgia. We tend to agree about the important stuff.
