Love island: Wes and Laura argue about the arrival of Ellie

Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

Newbies Ellie and Zara upset the balance in the Love Island villa tonight, exercising their ITV2-given right to flirt with whomever they please and knocking the confidence of several female contestants in the process.

Ellie appeared to give Wes cause to second-guess his decision to get serious with Laura, while Adam straight up confessed that he prefers Zara to Rosie.

Alex, as ever, was caught in the crosshairs, hopefully swinging from the skirts of the new girls in spite of the fact they both seemed to view him as more of a pity date - though the trail for tomorrow night suggested his questionable nacho course at dinner somehow earned him a kiss.

Previously: Cancel the wedding bells, Wes has decided that maybe Laura isn't The One after all and is considering an exploratory flirt with new girl and Laura semi-doppelganger Ellie.

"I think it feels very cold in here, very territorial," Ellie says in the trailer for tonight's episode, but Zara is unfazed. "I don't think it matters," she replies, "we're here, we can do what we want."

The pair must force their way into the dating pool, which is liable to upset Rosie and Laura, the villa spouses of their targets, Adam and Wes.

"Mate I have not had a single chat with one other girl other than Laura since I've been here," Wes says in an epiphanic moment in the kitchen, to which devil-on-his-shoulder Adam replies: "Why don't you change that.

"That's what I'm saying," Wes continues, "the comment that got me was when you said 'yeah you're happy now but who's to say that you couldn't be happier with someone else...'"

To ramp up the original villa girls' jealousy, Ellie and Zara will each dine with three boys tonight, a different boy preparing each of the three courses.

Love Island airs every night at 9pm on ITV2 except Saturday, when you're free to wander out into the world.

If you think this series has been a bit tame so far, consider checking out the Australian edition...

Will tonight be the night Alex convinces a human woman to come within 12 feet of him?

Christopher Hooton18 June 2018 17:04

15 minutes to go. I've ducked out of the England game because frankly Alex has a better chance of scoring right now

Christopher Hooton18 June 2018 20:44

A list minute head worked for Harry Kane, but what about Rosie? It's go time.

The girls try and play it cool, while Eyal and Adam pretend they just have Alex's best interests at heart

Christopher Hooton18 June 2018 21:05

Adam tries to soothe Rosie's anxiety by reminding her that he's put a lot of time into her. Ah, nothing gets the ladies swooning like the fallacy of sunk costs!

Alex is concerned that the newcomers might only be interested in him because he's the only sentient male being in the villa without a partner. So concerned that when Samira suggests Ellie isn't the type of girl to be interested in him, he becomes suddenly woke and makes it a prejudice thing

Really enjoying Laura asking Wes just how much he fancies "all the girls" in the villa while ostensibly rubbing his eye, an incredibly sharp fake nail just millimetres from his iris. Honestly if you've been thinking of writing a script there's so much to be stolen from Love Island

"I've got a teeeeeext":

'A woman must copulate with Alex in the next five days or he will be hurled directly into the Sun.'

Christopher Hooton18 June 2018 21:19

Starting to seriously worry about Alex's skin
