Great British Bake Off 2018 Trailer

Britain’s most beloved and pastel-hued baking show is back once more, with a batch of new Great British Bake Off contestants taking a break from skipping merrily in a park to try and get Paul Hollywood and Prue Leith’s taste buds tingling.

Last episode was bread week, as contestants tried to impress with Chelsea buns, while the technical challenge – non-yeast naan bread – proved a difficult bake to master. The gang then grappled with the devilishly difficult showstopper (korovai, a traditional bread in Eastern Europe that’s mainly associated with weddings).

Rahul was named Star Baker for the second week in a row, with Antony was sadly sent packing.

The technical challenge: a rasberry blancmange and some langues de chat AKA cat's tongues. But not actual cat tongues. It's just that someone intimately familiar with what a cat's tongue looks like decided to name a biscuit.

The flipping of the mould. The greatest terror of Bake Off.

Manon's blancmange is a perfect representation of me this entire summer.

Dan has won the technical with a definitely set blancmange. Congrats!

The final, Showstopper challenge: chocolate ball desserts. Although everyone seems to be avoiding describing their entry as a ball. We've had sphere so far, then egg... Dan just called it "Dan and the Giant Peach".

Kim-Joy might not be sure where the "turtles in space" theme came from but, uh, maybe this will ring a bell with her

Or she might know it from this...

Oh, Briony! It hurts to watch.
