Kit Harington, who plays the formerly dead but now very much alive Lord Commander of the Night’s Watch, was sworn to secrecy about his upcoming plot, with the rest of the cast and crew forbidden from referring to either the actor or his character by name.
Instead, Harington/Jon Snow was called ‘LC’ (Lord Commander) for the duration of filming. The giveaway names were also banned from scripts, scene breakdowns, call sheets, prop and wardrobe materials and all conversations, according to Entertainment Weekly.
“No one was allowed to say ‘Jon Snow’ on set, ever. Everyone had to refer to me as ‘LC’,” Harington told the magazine after his character was finally resurrected by Melisandre in Monday night’s episode, “Home”.
Carice van Houten, who plays Melisandre, gave Harington a cheeky new nickname based on ‘LC’ during the incantation scene where she washes the blood from his naked body. EW declined to print it, but anyone with even the slightest dirty mind can surely have a pretty good guess.
Fans had already heavily suspected that Jon Snow would come back to life after photos of the actor shooting in Belfast leaked online last summer.
Game of Thrones returns on 9 May at 9pm on Sky Atlantic.
