Courteney Cox has surprised a 13-year-old Friends superfan from Borehamwood.

Appearing on The Late Late Show with James Corden, the former sitcom star spoke to English teenager Naftali via video link.

Naftali explained to James Corden how he had recently held a Friends-themed bar mitzvah over video messaging, after lockdown restrictions affected his plans for an in-person celebration.

News of the unusual event spread, and thousands of people ended up tuning in to watch the Jewish coming-of-age ceremony.

"I thought it was going to be a small thing, my family and just a few friends," the child said.

Cox, who played the uptight Monica Geller on the hit sitcom, then appeared on the call, saying: "I was really touched by your story.

"Since you couldn’t have you bar mitzvah like you had expected, I decided to get you a foosball table just like the one in Joey and Chandler’s apartment."

Friends co-star Jennifer Aniston has also surprised a fan in a similar manner recently, presenting a coronavirus-struck nurse with an £8,000 gift.
