From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

The former Friends star was introduced to Utah-based cardiovascular nurse Kimball Fairbanks via video link.
“Hi, honey, it’s so good to meet you,” said Aniston. “I just have to say, God bless you and all of you that are out there doing what you’re doing. I don’t even know how to express my gratitude to everything that you guys are doing, putting your health at risk and all of that. You’re just phenomenal.”
Aniston and Kimmel then revealed to Fairbanks that they were providing her with a gift certificate worth $10,000 (roughly £8,100) so she would be able to order food deliveries during the pandemic.
While on the programme, Aniston also talked about her own experiences with life under the coronavirus quarantine.
“Doing dishes is now my new favourite, favourite thing in the world,” she said, “because not only are you doing your dishes but you’re washing your hands,” Aniston said.
She also talked about her habit of organising her closets. “I was a crazy person the first week and then I realised I had to pull back because I was going to run out of closets. 30 more days - I’ve got to pace myself.”
Aniston had been scheduled to appear in a much-anticipated Friends reunion special for HBO Max, but the pandemic has caused the programme to be delayed.
