Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.Veep leads the pack at this year's Emmys with the most nominations.
And, having won the award for Outstanding Comedy Series two years in a row, it's looking extremely likely it will pick up that same award this year. It's a category where voters don't seem keen to shake things up very often, with Modern Family having won five years in a row previous to Veep's first victory.
That said, there's a chance that Donald Glover's Atlanta - such an artful, thoughtful, and thoroughly modern show that's found a warm reception with critics - could just about manage to clinch it; Donald Glover is certainly the favourite for Outstanding Lead Actor, and the show could pick up a couple of wins for Best Directing and Best Writing.
It's almost pretty much guaranteed that when it comes to the Supporting categories, Saturday Night Live will win out with both Alec Baldwin (for his Trump impression) and Kate McKinnon. The show isn't nominated for Outstanding Comedy Series as it falls under Outstanding Variety Sketch series, where it'll surely beat out Billy on the Street and Tracey Ullman's Show.
In the non-Comedy categories, Westworld and The Crown are looking to dominate the evening, with Game of Thrones not actually eligible this year due to the delays on season 7.
