Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

The 69th Annual Primetime Emmy Awards, honouring the best of US television, takes place this weekend at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles with Stephen Colbert hosting.

Here you'll find all the key details you'll need:

When exactly is it?

The Creative Arts Emmys have already taken place, but the main ceremony is scheduled for Sunday 17 September, 2017, with coverage starting at 8PM ET / 5PM PT / 1AM BST.

How can I watch?

In the US, CBS is carrying the entire thing and you can watch via TV or stream it through the network's All Access website.

In the UK, however, the ceremony won't be televised. The tech-savvy and morally ambivalent might turn to their VPNs and illegal streams, the rest will have to make do with the clips on YouTube the next morning.

Who is nominated and who will win?

HBO is the service with the most noms (46), followed by FX and Netflix which are tied on 27. The most nominated shows are HBO's Westworld and NBC's Saturday Night Live, both on 22.

Expect Stranger Things to pick up Outstanding Drama Series and Atlanta to steal Outstanding Comedy Series in spite of Veep being the favourite.

Award presenters (expect Trump digs) include Riz Ahmed, Alec Baldwin, Dave Chappelle, Viola Davis, Jane Fonda, Rashida Jones, Nicole Kidman, Melissa McCarthy, Seth MacFarlane and Kumail Nanjiani.

You can find our predictions for all of the major categories here.
