Emilia Clarke reveals truth behind Game of Thrones coffee cup blunder

Emilia Clarke has revealed the identity of the culprit behind the infamous Game of Thrones coffee cup blunder.

During episode four of the HBO drama's eighth and final season, eagle-eyed viewers spotted a takeaway coffee cup, which had been accidentally left in shot on a table in front of Daenerys Targaryen.

Clarke naturally got the blame, but has now let slip that it was actually her co-star Conleth Hill – who played Lord Varys – that left the cup on the table.

"Here's the truth," she told US host Jimmy Fallon, adding: "We had a party before the Emmys recently and Conleth [Hill], who plays Varys — who's sitting next to me in that scene — he pulls me aside and he's like, 'Emilia, I have got to tell you something, love. The coffee cup was mine'."

She added: "It was his! It was Conleth's coffee cup! He said so."

Clarke was promoting new film Last Christmas, a romantic comedy written by Emma Thompson and Byron Kimmings that's been directed by Paul Feig (Bridesmaids).

The film follows Kate (Clarke), who works year-round as an elf in a Christmas shop, and Tom (Golding), an all-round good guy who could be the man to finally break down Kate’s barriers. Watch a clip from the film here.

Last Christmas will be released on 8 November in the US and 15 November in the UK.
