From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. The BBC has just confirmed that the most famous villain in Doctor Who history will return in the New Year special.

A trailer shown on Christmas Day was aired with a surprise addition: the voice of the Daleks shouting their famous catchphrase, "Exterminate".

“This is the DNA of the most dangerous creature in the universe,” Jodie Whittaker's Time Lord says in the clip. “It’s not gonna stop until it’s taken control of this planet. It’s gonna kill anyone that gets in its path.”

After Bradley Walsh’s Graham asks ”Does it have a name?” the Doctor does not reply, which left fans convinced the Daleks would be returning.

The BBC has now confirmed it as a Christmas treat to fans.

Speaking while filming the special earlier this year, showrunner Chris Chibnall fuelled rumours of their return when asked if they could appear.

“We’ve got two weeks left of shooting, and we haven’t seen them yet," he told Radio Times.

Whittaker recently completed her first series, following which it was announced she would return for another series that won't air until 2020.
