From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

With 15 days left until the upcoming Doctor Who Christmas special reaches TV screens, the BBC has unveiled the first footage from The Return of Doctor Mysterio.

Joining The Doctor, played by Peter Capaldi, is Matt Lucas’s character Nardole, previously seen in the 2015 episode "The Husbands of River Song”.

According to the official synopses, we can expect brain-swapping aliens and a mysterious superhero called The Ghost, played by Justin Chatwin.

The hour-long special written by Stephen Moffat will air at 5:45pm on BBC1 on Christmas Day. Meanwhile, according to Capaldi, the regular series will return in April with new companion Bill, played by Pearl Mackie of the West End’s The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night Time. Lucas will also be a series regular.

Earlier this year, Capaldi hinted Jenna Coleman may be returning to the show sometime soon, saying the two had filming something together post season nine.
