From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Doctor Who may not be returning to our screens until 2017 (not including a Christmas special), but already Peter Capaldi is teasing fans about what is to come.

Speaking at Awesome Con in Washington DC, Capaldi and Jenna Coleman - who played past companion, Clara Oswald - spoke about the Doctor’s mind-wipe in the last episode of Doctor Who, ‘Mind Wipe’.

"I'm not sure how successfully Clara was able to wipe his mind," Capaldi teased, according to Radio Times. "I just… I was about to tell you something I can't tell you."

Despite trying to contain his own excitement, however, Capaldi let slip some news: "I just shot something that Clara was still there in!”

While this is not confirmation Coleman will be back, it certainly inspires hope she may at least cameo in either the Christmas special or 2017’s series.

He may have also been referring to a different project, yet rumour has it the tenth season of the rebooted Doctor Who is set to film in just two weeks; could he be referring to some pre-production work?

Even if Coleman does return to the TARDIS for a brief scene, she likely won’t be stopping around as Pearl Mackie is set to become The Doctor’s new companion.
