After what feels like years, Disney has finally unveiled its brand new streaming service that’ll be home to new Marvel, Pixar and Star Wars television shows.

While US citizens are able to access the platform from today (12 November), those living in the UK will have to wait a fair bit longer: it was recently announced that Disney+ won’t be making it overseas until 31 March 2020.

This means that the UK will have to wait to see new Disney live-action film Lady and the Tramp, as well as The Mandalorian, which is a brand new Star Wars series set five years after Return of the Jedi.

Fans have naturally expressed their outrage on Twitter, with many stating that Disney has “let [the UK] down” by not arranging it so the platform arrived here on the same day.

But, why does the UK have to wait for Disney+?

Simon Brew, the founder and editor of Film Stories magazine, recently revealed it’s because the studio has to wait for licencing terms to be fulfilled with others like 20th Century Fox and Sky. In other words, it’s out of bosses’ hands.

With this in mind, prepare for Disney films to be removed from Sky Cinema, NOW TV and other streaming services when it finally does make it over here.

It should be noted that the only European country that Disney+ will be available in ahead of March 2020 is the Netherlands.

When it does arrive, it’s expected to cost £6.99 a month and will be available to stream via dedicated apps including Apple TV, Android devices, Google’s Chromecast, iOS and iPadOS devices, PlayStation 4, Roku, and Xbox One consoles.
