From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

R Kelly has finally had a moment in the media that was somewhat positive.

Despite being a disgraced, alleged child rapist and failing to capitalize on media interviews that refuse to allow the allegations stand unquestioned, R Kelly has had a brief viral moment that may grant him positive headlines in media outlets willing to give him press to fuel his fading R&B career.

A drunk white man ran into Robert Kelly while the singer was purchasing food at a Nathan’s Famous hot dog stand in Jacksonville, Florida. Unwilling to believe that R Kelly was indeed R Kelly, the drunkard bets the singer $100 in a singing competition. "That's 100 percent not R Kelly," the man says, while pointing to R Kelly.

Of course, R Kelly flexes his vocal skills and impressed the crowd of onlookers, still unconvinced, the losing party refuses to believe that he is indeed R Kelly. "That still ain't R Kelly," the man says. He also and realizes that he definitely does not have $100 to fulfill the terms of the bet. But he does offer his own take on R Kelly’s famous sensual '90s joint “Bump & Grind.”

“Oh my body, my body is telling me that I’m white,” the man belts out.
