From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Grimes has claimed that her five-month-old baby with Elon Musk enjoys watching “radical art” and the surreal war film Apocalypse Now.

The Canadian musician announced in May that she had given birth to X Æ A-XII, pronounced “Ex Ash A Twelve", her first child with the controversial Tesla founder.

Grimes, who also goes by the name ‘c’ after the speed of light, has now created a lullaby inspired by her desire for a better sleeping aid for her young son.

“In general, stuff for babies is really just creatively bad,” Grimes told the New York Times. “I don’t want your first introduction to the world to just be all this aimless crap.”

“I’m not insulting babies. I’m just – it’s all very one vibe,” she continued, adding that babies “have taste”.

“They definitely like some things,” Grimes explained. “They don’t like other things. They fully have opinions. I’ve watched Apocalypse Now and stuff with my baby. He’s into radical art. Like, he just actually is, and I don’t think it’s problematic to engage with them on that level.”

Grimes has created the ambient soundscape, dubbed an “AI lullaby”, for Endel, a new sleeping app that uses artificial intelligence to generate soundscapes to fit different moods.

In July, Grimes appeared to criticise Musk after he tweeted that “pronouns suck”. In a since-deleted tweet, Grimes wrote to Musk: “I love you but please turn off ur phone or give me a dall [sic]. I cannot support hate. Please stop this. I know this isn’t your heart.”
