From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.Rapper Dave has joked that he intends to “retire” now that his track “Thiago Silva”, named after the Paris Saint Germain footballer, has been acknowledged by the PSG star himself.
Dave was responsible for one of this weekend’s funniest viral moments at Glastonbury, when he plucked a fan named Alex from the audience at his Other Stage set who proceeded to flawlessly join in with the track, all while sporting a Thiago Silva football shirt.
The performance led to Silva finally acknowledging the track, released in 2016 as a collaboration between Dave and AJ Tracey, who tweeted early this morning: “Thanks Alex!”
Writing on Twitter, Dave joked that “Thiago Silva has recognised ‘Thiago Silva’ and now I have decided to retire”. He added: “My work here is done.”
The Silva shout-out capped an incredible weekend for the Streatham-born rapper, who also made an appearance during Stormzy’s barnstormer of a headlining set on Friday night.
