From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

The musician posted a cover of the classic “Moon River” to his YouTube channel, a song originally composed by Henry Mancini, with lyrics by Johnny Mercer, created for Audrey Hepburn to sing in the 1961 film Breakfast at Tiffany’s. It’s been covered by many of music’s greats in the past, including Aretha Franklin, Amy Winehouse, Louis Armstrong, Elton John, The Killers, Frank Sinatra, Barbra Streisand, and R.E.M.
This stripped-down version layers Ocean’s vocals with a fairly relaxed, simple guitar backing; it’s the emotions contained within the words themselves that come bubbling to the surface, creating a version deeply romantic without any sense of extravagance.
Ocean teased back in January that “if you liked 2017, you’ll love 2018“, suggesting that “Moon River” is far from the only piece of music he’ll be delivering this year.
Indeed, the hints he’s been laying out for fans does suggest a new album might be on the horizon for this year, providing a much-anticipated follow-up to 2016’s Endless and Blonde. You can listen to “Moon River” below.
