Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.A David Bowie tribute concert set to feature Blondie, Pixies, Michael Stipe, J Mascis, the Flaming Lips, The Roots and more will be streamed live through Skype.
Two shows of The Music of David Bowie will take place in New York, with the first at Carnegie Hall on 31 March; though its the second which will be streamed, held at Radio City Music Hall on 1 April. Anyone wanting to tune in will be asked to make a donation to a selection of charities in support of the arts, in order to receive a link to watch the event.
The show's website reads; "Due to unprecedented interest in the David Bowie memorial concert in Radio City, we have teamed up with Skype and ammado to stream the concert around the world, in return for a small donation to our charity partners. We suggest a minimum donation equivalent to $20 or £15."
The show will feature up to 18 artists on the night, with Mumford & Sons, The Polyphonic Spree, and Amanda Palmer also included on the bill; the set-list consisting of a number of classics from Bowie's discography.
The concert follows a host of tributes honouring the legendary musician's passing on 11 January; including Lady Gaga's number at the Grammys, and a similar performance by Lorde and Bowie's former band at the Brits. Glastonbury is set to screen his 2000 headline slot after the stages have been shut down on one of the nights.
