It was impossible for Lady Gaga to celebrate music at the Grammys tonight without referencing one of its greatest talents and one of her chief inspirations, whom we lost this year.

"The world loves you David," she wrote pre-show on Instagram, alongside a video of her in tears as Bowie-esque make-up was applied to her face.

The tribute continue into her choice of outfit, an astral dress Bowie would surely have approved of.

As the ceremony commenced, she then performed a medley of Bowie’s biggest hits - a spider being projected onto her face using new technology during 'Space Oddity' - winding up with a rousing rendition of 'Heroes'.

The dress certainly went down better than Justin Bieber's, who was likened to Colonel Sanders amongst many others.

Other performers at the LA ceremony included Adele, Kendrick Lamar, The Weeknd, Miguel and Alice Cooper.

Keep up with tonight's winners as they're unveiled here.
