Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

Beyoncé and Jay Z accepted their award for Best International Group – as The Carters – at the Brits last night by posing before a painting of Meghan Markle dressed as a Queen, which they later revealed was in honour of Black History Month.

The pair were unable to appear in person, instead beaming into the room through a video link.

“You guys have been so supportive,” Beyoncé said accepting the award. Neither commented on the painting behind them.

Before the wedded duo made an appearance, host Jack Whitehall quipped: ”It’s time to celebrate the International artists – from a distance, as none of them could be bothered to show up.”

Artists up for awards included Dua Lipa, George Ezra and Florence + the Machine. On the night, The 1975 and Calvin Harris reigned victorious, taking home two awards each.

Other international artists to win awards included Drake and Ariana Grande – who were also unable to attend the awards ceremony.
