From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

However, before then, we have Episode IX coming to cinemas in December 2019. LucasFilm decided to drop their original choice of director, Colin Trevorrow, instead replacing the Jurassic World helmer with The Force Awakens mastermind JJ Abrams.
Trevorrow has now spoken to Empire about the firing/why the studio and director “mutually” chose to part ways, revealing that both George Lucas and Mark Hamill heard his ideas for the final instalment in the sequel trilogy.
“I don’t want to talk too much about it because I don’t want to affect the way that fans get to see these films,” he told the publication.
“When we were kids, these movies came to us from far away. They were a gift. And the more we talk about how they’re made, the more it reveals that they’re just movies. But they’re not just movies, they’re more than that.
“Beyond that, I got the opportunity to tell a story that is a celebration of everything I believe in, I got to tell it to George Lucas and I got to tell it to Luke Skywalker, and those are experiences I will cherish for the rest of my life.”
LucasFilm under Disney has had a mixed relationship with directors. While JJ Abrams and Rian Johnson have spoken about their wonderful working relationships with the studio (Johnson will also return to the series, writing a trilogy of Star Wars films), Rogue One's Gareth Edwards was basically replaced by Tony Gilroy and Solo saw Phil Lord and Chris Miller replaced midway through filming by Ron Howard.
Star Wars Episode IX reaches cinemas 20 December 2019.
