From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

The film follows the story of martial-arts master Shang-Chi (played by actor Simu Liu), who confronts a past he thought he left behind when he’s drawn into the web of the mysterious Ten Rings organisation.
Created by Steven Englehart and Jim Starlin, Shang-Chi made his first appearance in December 1973 following the boom of martial arts films, thanks to the success of Enter the Dragon.
After a new trailer for the film was released, one fan wrote: “Okay I’m even more hyped than I already was. Can’t wait to see this whole new side of the MCU.”
“It does look pretty cool. I absolutely love that they brought back Abomination,” wrote another.
“Growing up I loved the crazy martial arts movies coming out of Hong Kong and the jet li movies of the early 90s...can’t wait for this,” added another excited fan.
Earlier this year, Marvel fans spotted a Captain America Easter egg hidden away in one of the trailers for Shang-Chi .
They noticed Captain America’s shield hidden in the background of one shot – the one that’s also recently been used in the Disney Plus TV show The Falcon and The Winter Soldier by John Walker.
How the shield will make it from that show into Shang-Chi remains to be seen.
Shang Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings will be released in cinemas on 3 September.
