Everything Everywhere All At Once leads the pack with the most Oscar nominations this year – but some surprises and snubs have certainly shaken things up.
The nominations were announced today (24 January), as awards season continues.

Among the surprise nominees this year is Paul Mescal who received a Best Actor nod for his role in the father-daughter drama Aftersun. He is nominated alongside Austin Butler, Brendan Fraser, Bill Nighy, and fellow Irish actor Colin Farrell.
It is a big year for Ireland, with Brendan Gleeson and Kerry Condon joining Mescal and Farrell in the list of nominees. The Banshees of Inisherin, An Irish Goodbye and A Quiet Girl all received nods this year.

Another shock came when Ana de Armas was nominated for Best Actress thanks to her role in the hugely polarising Marilyn Monroe biopic Blonde, which The Independent gave one-star.
Riz Ahmed and Alison Williams hosted the announcement presentation from the Academy’s Samuel Goldwyn Theatre in Beverly Hills, California.
The 95th Academy Awards will air live on ABC on Sunday (12 March) with Jimmy Kimmel returning as host for the third time.

‘The Quiet Girl' makes history with Oscar nomination
The Quiet Girl (An Cailin Ciuin) makes history as the first Irish feature film to receive a nomination in the Best International Feature Film category.
Last week, the film was nominated for two Bafta awards.
What is ‘Women Talking’ and when will it be released in the UK?
Among this year’s nominees is Women Talking.
Compared to the other films announced this afternoon, such as Avatar: The Way of Water and Top Gun: Maverick, Sarah Polley’s drama is little known – at least to UK audiences.
Women Talking is yet to be released in the UK, with the film hitting cinemas on 10 February.
It stars Rooney Mara, Claire Foy, Jessie Buckley, and Frances McDormand in a story about women living within an isolated religious colony, which is rocked by a series of sexual assaults.

Fans are celebrating as first-time Academy Award nominee Stephanie Hsu nabs a nod in the Best Supporting Actress category for her role in Everything Everywhere All At Once.
Park Chan-wook’s ‘Decision to Leave’ is snubbed
Among the notable snubs this year is Park Chan-wook’s beautiful and tender thriller Decision to Leave, which walked away with zero nominations.
The decision comes as a surprise especially given Park Chan-wook (previously Old Boy and The Handmaiden) won Best Director at the Cannes Film Festival.

Former child star Ke Huy Quan secures first Oscar nod
Brendan Fraser isn’t the only comeback kid.
Ke Huy Quan is the former childstar of films such as Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom and The Goonies.
He returned to acting in his forties, and at 51 has now nabbed his first Oscar nomination for his supporting role opposite Michelle Yeoh in Everything Everywhere All At Once.
