From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

The actor featured in the original Hocus Pocus, a fantasy-comedy about a coven of witches, alongside Sarah Jessica Parker and Kathy Najimy in 1993.
In a new picture posted to Midler’s Instagram, the Sanderson sisters can be seen with towering hairdos and vibrant dresses.
The reunion event, titled Search of the Sanderson Sisters: A Hocus Pocus Hulaween Takeover, will air on Friday 30 October.
Tickets for the 2020 Hulaween event cost $10 and are available now, and all profits will go to the New York Restoration Project's "dedication to creating more green space for underserved communities to grow their own food, connect, and access safe spaces directly in their neighbourhood”.
Midler also recently suggested she wants to star in the forthcoming Hocus Pocus sequel in development at Disney+.
In an interview with Entertainment Tonight, Midler revealed that she was currently “talking logistics” with the studio.
The revered Broadway star said she “can’t wait to fly”.
