Excitement for the Ryan Reynolds’ led sequel is phenomenal, fans of the foul-mouthed mercenary awaiting every detail regarding the film.
Thankfully, writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick are more than happy to share various snippets of information with the public. In an interview with Deadline, the duo spoke candidly about numerous heroes popping up in the solo film.
“It’ll be a solo movie,” Reese said after being asked whether Deadpool 2 would still be a standalone film. "It’ll be populated with a lot of characters, but it is still Deadpool’s movie, this next one. We’re pushing forward very hard.
“I think by every account we will shoot it this year, and we’re on our multiple draft now. It’s taken different twists and turns, but it’s really coalescing, and we’re very, very excited. We’re a little nervous, because now we feel like we have to live up to the first movie, but at the same time, we have to have faith, and we have an extreme passion still, and as long as we have passion still, and it’s not a mercenary, venal play, which we don’t think this is, I think we’ll be in good shape.”
Of course, the first film wasn't entirely solo: Colossus and Negasonic Teenage Warhead did team up with Deadpool. It seems, however, that for the sequel, not only can we expect Cable, but other X-Men as well.
In the same interview, Reese revealed there are no plans for Deadpool to appear in any X-Men films yet, adding that it wouldn’t be “too hard to drop Deadpool into another movie.” The duo also joked how “Vladimir Putin leaked the test footage” that got the first Deadpool made.
Meanwhile, in other superhero news, the villain in the Wonder Woman film has been revealed and Game of Thrones actor Peter Dinklage is in talks to join Avengers: Infinity War.
