A new trailer for Cinderella has debuted online shortly before its Berlin Film Festival premiere.

Kenneth Branagh’s live-action reboot of Disney’s animated classic stars Downton Abbey actress Lily James in the lead, alongside Game of Thrones actor Richard Madden as Prince Charming.

Cate Blanchett plays evil stepmother Lady Tremaine, Helena Bonham Carter is the Fairy Godmother and Holliday Grainger and Sophie McShera are the wicked stepsisters.

For those unfamiliar with the fairytale, it follows the changing fortunes of young Ella, who finds herself at the mercy of a jealous and cruel new stepfamily when her merchant father dies suddenly.

Despite the harsh treatment inflicted upon her, she remains determined to honour her mother’s dying words and to “have courage and be kind”, the official synopsis reads.

Then, of course, there is the handsome stranger she meets in the woods who may or may not be a prince. Okay, he’s a prince, and some exciting things happen involving a ball, a pumpkin, some mice and a kindly beggar woman with more to her than first meets the eye.

The first Cinderella trailer broke Disney’s record for its most online views in 24 hours, excluding Marvel releases, when it racked up a massive 4.2 million YouTube views and 33 million Facebook views last November.

Cinderella reaches UK cinemas on 27 March, and will receive a global IMAX release. The hotly-awaited short sequel to Frozen, Frozen Fever, will play ahead of the film.
