From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Fans worried that Captain America: Civil War would not have enough superheros will be relieved to hear Marvel announce the film's star-studded cast.

Paul Rudd's Ant-Man is set to appear for the first time alongside fellow Avengers, while Paul Bettany's Vision, Elizabeth Olsen's Scarlet Witch, Jeremy Renner's Hawkeye and Don Cheadle's War Machine have all been confirmed to also join the already massive line-up.

Previously announced to star alongside Chris Evans and Robert Downey Jnr. as Captain America and Iron Man in the superhero flick are Scarlett Johansson as Black Widow, Chadwick Boseman as Black Panther, Anthony Mackie as Falcon, Sebastian Stan as Bucky Barnes/Winter Soldier and Daniel Bruhl as Baron Zemo.

The Hobbit and Office star Martin Freeman was earlier this week confirmed to join Civil War in an as yet unannounced role, as was Emily VanCamp who will return as Agent 13.

While the announcement confirms the return of nearly every Avenger, minus Thor and Hulk, both Samuel L Jackson’s Nick Fury and Cobie Smulders’ Maria Hill have been left of the announcement.

Civil War “picks up where Avengers: Age of Ultron left off, as Steve Rogers leads the new team of Avengers in their continued efforts to safeguard humanity,” according to the press release.

“After another international incident involving the Avengers results in collateral damage, political pressure mounts to install a system of accountability and a governing body to determine when to enlist the services of the team. The new status quo fractures the Avengers while they try to protect the world from a new and nefarious villain.”

Joe and Anthony Russo will direct the action flick, having previously directed Captain America: The Winter Soldier. The duo are also set to direct the two part Avengers sequel, Infinity War.

Principle photography for Civil War has already begun in Pinewood Studios, Atlanta, with further filming set to take place in Germany, Puerto Rico and Iceland.
