Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

A group of young photographers mentored by the Independent on Sunday's picture editor are exhibiting their work for the first time this week.

The Young Photographers' Alliance (YPA) arts charity's mentoring programme, which links young, emerging photographers between the ages of 18 and 29 with established photographers and picture editors, presents its 'Raw Energy: YPA Mentoring 2011' exhibition at Hoxton Gallery, London on 20 March.

For the 2011 programme IoS picture editor Sophie Batterbury and reportage photographer Justin Sutcliffe, whose work includes extensive contributions to the paper, were the mentors for the team in London, while a second team in Glasgow was headed by picture editor Elaine Livingstone of Opus Media and photographer Claire Stuart.

The young photographers were given two months to deliver their final projects - on the theme of 'energy' - and this week's show features an image each from each of the 19 mentees, as well as a few of the best images from the scheme's US counterpart.
