There may be some wintry showers with sleet and patches of snow in northeast England and parts of Scotland. The rest of the country will see a predominantly bright, sunny day.
Temperatures will be slightly warmer than they were at the weekend with daytime highs of 7C.
Nighttime temperatures will be significantly colder and clear skies mean that the temperature will drop away quickly with lows of between 2C and minus 4C.
Met Office yellow weather warnings for ice are in place for much of the UK until 11am Monday with the Met Office stating: “Icy stretches will likely cause some travel disruption.”
A yellow weather warning for snow and ice has also been issued for parts of western Scotland.
Tuesday will start clear but grow wetter as rain makes its way across the UK from the Atlantic Ocean. This could fall as snow in parts of Scotland and northern England.
Wednesday will remain wet for many with temperatures rising in the south as warmer air moves in.
In the wake of last week’s flooding, milder weather could potentially lead to further problems towards the end of the week.
The Met Office’s Simon Partridge told the PA news agency: "It's a bit of a rollercoaster from cold and wintry conditions to wet and windy ones.
"We are keeping an eye on rainfall totals because there are some areas that are very sensitive to rainfall and there is further possible flooding as we go through the second half of the week."
